VisualFactory according to RAVO:

“Before we used VisualFactory, we used to produce based on a road map, now we do that with an integrated navigation system”

RAVO already made the choice in 2015 to start using VisualFactory manufacturing software. RAVO, manufacturer of street sweepers, chose VisualFactory to secure the complex assembly. VisualFactory is linked to the ERP system at RAVO, which means that they are able to offer order-specific work instructions to a technician.

Changing working method

In the past, in production, folders with paper documents were used for the work instructions, so it took a lot of time to make changes to work instructions and to keep the instructions up to date. A lot of knowledge was secured by the mechanics and the training time for a new employee was a long and intensive process. The quality of the end product was therefore difficult to guarantee.

Culture change through company-wide implementation

A conscious decision was made to implement VisualFactory per department. After the pilot in the engine department, the system was further rolled out across the entire production.

Making the instructions is an intensive job. Over time, it was therefore decided to work with 3 instruction levels. This made progress across the organization and the software could be rolled out more quickly throughout production. This also made it easier to initiate the necessary culture change company-wide.

Controlling production quality

Now that experience has been gained with VisualFactory for some time, it can be said that RAVO has taken a major step in controlling production quality. RAVO now has a powerful production-supporting instrument at its disposal, which gives it the opportunity to continuously monitor production quality and efficiency and make adjustments where necessary. Nelly Raap-Appel, Manager Operations Control at RAVO, summarizes the VisualFactory project aptly:

“Before we started using Visual Factory, we used to produce on the basis of a road map, now we do that with an integrated navigation system”

TP participates in the Flexible Manufacturing Field Lab with a work cell equipped with VisualFactory (VF).

Is reshoring also something for your company?

Reshoring is the recall of business activities that you had previously carried out in low-wage countries. By bringing business activities back to the Netherlands, you save costs as a company and you have more control over quality. Development company NHN and Total Productivity help companies to explore the possibilities of reshoring.
