Total Productivity BV originated from the former Philips subsidiary, at that time located in Alkmaar. Wikipedia describes this history globally as follows:
In 1879 the Alkmaar Iron and Metal Foundry was established. This factory has manufactured many products, including leveling and signaling installations for the Railways. Right after the second world war, Philips showed its interest in this society by acquiring 20% of the shares. In 1960 the factory became a full Philips subsidiary.
Since this Alkmaar branch of Philips also started manufacturing machines in 1970, it supplied the internal Philips factories worldwide from assembly and production systems for products such as: TV, audio, video, fax machines and shavers.
1990 – Nederlandse Machinefabriek Alkmaar
In the early nineties Philips decided that the development and erection of production equipment was a non core activity. These activities were privatized under the name “Nederlandse Machinefabriek Alkmaar” (NMA). Within the market of manufacturers of consumer electronics, customers like Sony, Thomson, Grundig, Alcatel and Marantz were served.
IPA-TP takes over NMA Industrial Automation
IPA Total Productivity originates in 1998. The newly erected company took over all industrial automation activities of the Nederlandse Machinefabriek Alkmaar.
Currently, IPA focuses on the countries outside the BeNeLux.
